The Urban Catholic Teacher Corps of Boston College(UCTC) is a two-year graduate program in the Lynch School of Education. UCTCmembers complete a two-year practicum experience in Catholic schools servingurban students in the Archdiocese of Boston. Members grow and develop asteaching professionals, with a specific focus on growth as urban educators forCatholic schools. Program members live together in intentional communities inDorchester and Brockton, MA. The Research Associate will focus on research onCatholic school teacher effectiveness, the mentorship and coaching of teachers(as components of teacher induction), and efforts to support the development ofprogram members as critically reflective practitioners.
Work includes:Implementation of research study on Catholic school teacher effectiveness. Study shall includedata gathering at four Catholic school sites among the majority of students inthe schools (including both those students taught by UCTC members and thosenot).Testing of research instruments for the conducting of research on Catholic schoolteacher effectiveness. Specifically, focused on faith formation of students. Participation in analysis of data gathered in the Catholic school teacher effectiveness. Development and production of 4-6 publications or presentations annually based on the dataand analysis from the Catholic school teacher effectiveness study. Participation in the instruction of the LSOE graduate course focused on Catholic schoolteacher mentorship for all UCTC mentors (EDUC7401).Participation in the preparation and instruction of the reflective practice seminar for allUCTC members (EDUC7901).
This position is temporary and renewable annually dependent on funding.
RequirementsMaster's Degree with 3-5 years of research experience or a recently awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g., Sc.D., M.D.) in an appropriate field preferredExperience and understanding of teacher training, teacher development, and teacher effectivenessExperience working with urban Catholic education and faith-based communitiesProject management and supervisory experienceUnderstanding of Catholic EducationExperience organizing and managing research projects at all phases
