The Graduate School of Education (GSE), University of California, Berkeley, seeks a senior scholar for the position of Associate or Full Professor of Teacher Education and Director of the Teacher Education Program. The expected start date is July 1, 2018. The position includes directing and guiding the GSE's newly designed teacher education/preparation program that leads to a Master's degree and Credential in Elementary Education, Secondary English, or Secondary STEM. This work is supported by a reduced teaching load.
The successful candidate will have a strong record of publication, revenue generation, as well as university-level teaching and mentoring, particularly of Masters and doctoral students. The selected candidate will take a leadership role in directing and guiding the GSE's teacher education program, including developing a compelling vision for its increased integration, transformation, and impact.
The candidate's research interests will advance the field of teacher education and can be in one of several areas including language and literacy, or math, or science, or social studies/history, or technology education, or a related field. Evidence of excellence in research and publication include peer reviewed articles, professional books, and chapters in prestigious edited volumes, as well as conference presentations and other forms of professional contributions indicative of strong participation in the professional learning research community. The position also requires leadership in research connected to the professional development of teachers.
The candidate is expected to provide statewide and national leadership is some aspect of professional learning in urban educational contexts and will also represent and coordinate the GSE's efforts in urban teacher education within the University of California system and in our partnerships with school districts, county offices of education, and other education consortia.
Applicants must have a doctoral degree or equivalent in language and literacy, math, science, or social studies/history as focal areas in education, or in technology or a related field as connected to education, and have a record of scholarly achievement appropriate to securing a tenured position at UC Berkeley at the level of Associate or Full Professor.
