The Department of Theatre and Dance at Ball State University is seeking applicants for a full-time tenure track faculty member. We are seeking a candidate who can diversify our current offerings in dance by teaching African Diaspora, Hip Hop and/or North American vernacular dance forms. We will also consider candidates with primary expertise in dances of the Asian Diaspora and/or Caribbean, Latin American, and/or South American forms. The successful candidate will offer secondary expertise in Jazz, Ballet, Musical Theater Dance, or Introduction to Dance History.
The most competitive applicants will have a record of engaging students from diverse backgrounds. The university offers many opportunities for enrichment as an educator and a researcher including the Aspire Grants Program and the nationally renowned Virginia Ball Center for Creative Inquiry. The successful candidate also will have the ability to collaborate on the vision, design, and management of the dance program, mentor student creativity and research, and perform departmental and advisory duties as assigned. Possibilities also exist for future leadership positions within the dance program. All faculty in the College of Fine Arts are expected to be quality teachers, productive scholars and/or creative artists, and to engage in public service activities.
Minimum Qualifications: M.F.A. in Dance (completed by August 1, 2018) from an accredited institution. Ability to teach global dance forms. Secondary teaching experience in jazz, ballet, musical theatre dance, or dance history. One year of teaching at the university/college level.
Preferred Qualifications: Two years of teaching at the university/college level. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to work collaboratively and collegially within a liberal arts setting.
The Department of Theatre and Dance is a BFA/BA/BS undergraduate-only program with 375 theatre majors and 60 dance majors and a full-time faculty of 28 theatre and 7 dance. The Department maintains an active role in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) and the Kennedy Center American College Dance Festival (KCACDF). Theatre and Dance programs are NAST/NASD accredited.
