Professor of Practice
The Department of Media and Information (M&I) at Michigan State University (MSU) seeks to appoint a Specialist-Teacher, also known as professor of practice, with expertise in film, TV style and/or multi-cam live production to strengthen our Film and Media Production curriculum and our Media Sandbox initiative. Professional experience in screenwriting, producing, directing, and/or cinematography is desirable. It is expected that these outstanding candidates will have a portfolio of projects that have been distributed via television, theaters, festivals, and/or online, along with a proven track record of awards, recognition or residencies. Experience in fundraising and project development is also expected. Interest in other media, such as transmedia, interactive and immersive environments, experimental media, and games are a plus. The successful candidate will teach at the undergraduate and graduate level, often utilizing experiential learning approaches. Moreover, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to ongoing creative projects and department life.
The department has been teaching media production for over 60 years. We have an active student body, including several student organizations focused on film, TV, radio, and game production. The department also collaborates with WKAR Public Television and Radio. The M&I department is home to a dynamic, interdisciplinary faculty internationally renowned for their cutting-edge research and creative work. Our faculty are engaged in high level creative film, television, radio, game, and interactive media design, build human-centered technology, design traditional and interactive media experiences, and pursue creative scholarship. The Department has created multiple specialized labs including the GEL (Games for Entertainment and Learning) Lab, Spartan Newsroom and BIT (Behavior, Information, and Technology) Lab, and has state of the art production facilities in film, audio, games and television.
