Specialized Clinical Instructor of Teaching STEM, STEM Master Teacher (Mathematics)
The George Washington University is seeking candidates for appointment as Specialized Clinical Faculty at the rank of Instructor, to serve as a STEM Master Teacher in the GWTeach program (a replication of the UTeach program). The Specialized Clinical Faculty position is a non-tenure track position with teaching and service responsibilities to begin as early as August 2017.
Period of Appointment
This is an annual non-tenure track specialized faculty appointment for 10 months (a 9-month academic year contract, and the equivalent of 1 month summer salary). The initial appointment period is three years with the possibility of renewal, contingent on funding and satisfactory performance.
Applicants must have a strong mathematics and education background, as evidenced by 1) an undergraduate major in mathematics, mathematics education, or equivalent experience; 2) a master's degree in mathematics, education, or related field; 3) hold a public-school teaching license; 4) have at least five years of K-12 mathematics teaching experience; 5) have demonstrated ability to use best practices in teaching with evidence from teaching evaluations, and/or local, state, or national awards; 6) have knowledge of the needs of new STEM teachers and the realities of the challenges they face in the K-12 classroom setting; 7) have or be willing to attain familiarity with the District of Columbia Public and Public Charter School Systems as well as school systems in the D.C. metro region; 8) have a strong working knowledge of the Common Core State Standards for Math and the Next Generation Science Standards.
