The College of New Jersey invites applications for an Adjunct Artist-Teacher of Voice with a preference for male voice. This position begins August 28, 2018.
The successful candidate will teach private applied voice for voice majors and minors, and possibly non-majors, leading to healthy vocal technique, excellent musicianship, authentic lyric diction, and strong communication skills for juries, solo opportunities, and degree recitals.
Applied Teaching Load: approximately 3–7 “hours” (50 minutes) of studio voice teaching each week. The Fall semester runs from August 28–December 18 and the Spring semester from January 28–May 19. An accompanist is provided for a portion of major-level lessons.
[Required] Attendance at: one full day of juries each semester (TBA, usually within 2–8 days of the ending of classes); degree recitals of your students (scheduled on Sundays and weeknights); Recital Hearings for your students, one month prior to the recital date (30 minutes per student). Also required are written assessments of private students participating in the Sophomore Review.
[Suggested] Holding a studio Performance Class several times a semester (accompanist provided); attendance at the Sophomore Review, a separate event from juries, if you have students participating; participation in departmental entrance auditions 5–6 times/year.
Other teaching duties that may be assigned dependent upon candidate expertise and interest, as well as departmental needs: “Vocal Methods” class (a combination of basic vocal pedagogy and class voice for freshman instrumental majors, and vocal pedagogy and private teaching for sophomore voice majors), Fall semesters, Monday/Thursday 2:00–3:20 PM.
