The program desires an individual with a commitment to collaborative discourse, interdisciplinary inquiry, and entrepreneurial learning practices within a flourishing BFA/BA/BS program in dance.
Contract Faculty position available August 12, 2019. Ball State University seeks an individual with innovative ideas about the teaching and practice of dance technique, as well as a commitment to interdisciplinary inquiry and entrepreneurial learning practices within the art of dance.
The successful candidate will be dedicated to teaching ballet techniques that are based on sound anatomical and wellness principles coupled with a value of diverse approaches. Further, Candidate will teach a variety of performance and technique courses within a growing BFA/BA/BS dance curriculum. The individual will teach all levels of ballet technique including partnering and variations and stage classical and contemporary works. The ideal candidate will offer secondary expertise in any of the following areas: world or cultural forms, somatic practices, kinesiology, introduction to dance history, jazz and musical theatre forms, or pedagogy. The successful candidate also will have the ability to collaborate on the vision, design, and management of the Dance program, mentor student creativity and research, choreograph within the Department's production season (as needed), and perform departmental and advisory duties as assigned. All faculty in the College of Fine Arts are expected to be quality teachers, productive scholars, or as appropriate to the position, creative artists, and to engage in public service activities.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of five years of experience with a professionally recognized ballet company or a Master's degree in Dance from an accredited college or university.
One year of teaching experience at the university/college level.
M.F.A. in Dance from an accredited college or university (completed by August of 2019).
Three years of teaching experience at the university/college level, and a record of creative activity at the professional level in dance.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively and collegially within a liberal arts setting.
