The Department of Theatre and Dance at Ball State University seeks an individual for a Tenure Track Faculty Appointment available for August 12, 2019, with a commitment to collaborative discourse, interdisciplinary inquiry, and entrepreneurial learning practices as a voice for the actor and acting teacher within a flourishing BFA program in acting and musical theatre.
The successful candidate will teach fundamentals of vocal production, dialects, and various levels of acting and related courses in a highly collaborative undergraduate BFA/BA/BS curriculum. Additional opportunities may exist to work as a dialect, vocal, and acting coach when needed. Experience with musical theatre performers and understanding of musical theatre repertoire is highly desirable. All faculty in the College of Fine Arts are expected to be productive scholars, or as appropriate to the position, artists, and to engage in public service activities as well as teaching and scholarship or artistic and creative endeavors.
Summer start-up packages and reimbursement of moving expenses are available, as are ASPIRE start up grants to entry level faculty members to help further their enrichment as an educator and artist.
Responsibilities include teaching fundamentals of vocal production, dialects, and various levels of acting and related courses in a highly collaborative undergraduate BFA/BA/BS curriculum.
Position will include annual production assignments within the departmental season as voice and dialect coach. Additional opportunities may exist to also work as a performer or director.
All faculty in the College of Fine Arts are expected to be productive scholars, or as appropriate to the position, artists, and to engage in public service activities as well as teaching and scholarship or artistic and creative endeavors.
All degree requirements for a Master of Fine Arts from an accredited institution completed by date of appointment.
Two years of expertise in recognized vocal production methodology and clear system for teaching dialects.
At least one year of part-time or full-time university or college teaching experience, gained concurrently or at any time.
Master of Fine Arts in Acting or Voice for the Actor by date of appointment.
Substantial professional experience as an actor and/or as a voice/dialect coach.
Familiar with a recognized voice methodology.
At least three years of university or college teaching experience.
Knowledge and familiarity with various vocal approaches to actor training.
Ability to work collegially within a liberal arts setting.
