Department: IU Bloomington Biology
The Outreach Office in the Department of Biology at Indiana University is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as Director of Biology Outreach / Teacher.
The primary responsibility of the Director of Biology Outreach will be to work with Biology faculty to develop teacher training workshops and other activities designed to meet the NSF broader impacts criterion for funding, and consistent with state science standards. The incumbent is also expected to conduct outreach programs and events for K-12 audiences, give public school and community group presentations, and maintain an awareness of pedagogical trends in biology education. The incumbent will also be responsible for representing the department in its relations with local/regional schools and organizations, and state-wide and nation-wide partnerships through presentations and in written form. Developing and carrying out partnerships and special projects to benefit the field is expected. The Director is responsible for supervising office staff as well as volunteer management.
Position is 75% full-time with a salary is $42,500 per year, commensurate with education and experience, with full benefits included. The initial appointment is for one year, contingent upon satisfactory performance, and renewable on a yearly basis.
B.S. or B.A. in Biology or related field, and at least ten years of professional work in the field of outreach, education, or biology required.
The successful applicant must have experience leading and managing outreach activities such as logistics, strategic planning, and fundraising and have a strong professional network across the field of biology and educational outreach. A history of progressively more responsible experience and achievement is some combination of fieldwork and documentation (e.g., research and publication, teaching, outreach activities, or educational programming) strongly desired. Excellent organizational management skills, including personnel management, as well as a strong degree of self-motivation and the ability to motivate others desired.
