Teachers are expected to work collaboratively with other teachers in the Science Department to ensure that curricula are developmentally appropriate and work synergistically with the high school scope and sequence. The science teacher is also expected to work in collaboration with their own faculty and interact productively with colleagues outside their faculty, other professionals, staff and administrators, and parents.
Maintaining up-to-date teaching techniques to provide students with a quality educational experience in a high school science class.
The instruction of introductory, advanced, and/or elective courses in physics, with the possibility of some sections of chemistry.
The curriculum should focus on inquiry-based experiences, multiple levels of material engagement and the use of scientific tools and technology.
Science teachers report to their respective Principals and are responsible to the Science Department Chair. The Science Department is responsible for the education of students in grades 3 - 12.
Teachers are expected to work a 40 hour work week and the required number of days as stipulated in the collective bargaining agreement. Additionally, he/she will be expected to perform in accordance with the terms and conditions of the bargaining agreement between the University of Chicago and the Faculty Association.
The anticipated start date for this position is 9/1/2019.

Education, Experience or Certifications:
Bachelor's degree in a field of science or related required.
Physics degree and/or advanced degree in a field of science or related field preferred.
At least three years of experience teaching in physics or physical science, preferably at the high school level preferred.
Experience in developing curriculum and teaching advanced classes strongly preferred.
Experience working with a wide range of students from diverse backgrounds such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, learning abilities, class, language, and nationality preferred.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Ability to move in and around the classroom/building to interact with students, faculty, staff, parents, and other members of the community.
Ability to move class-related equipment/tools, as appropriate, around school property.
When appropriate, the ability to escort children from one classroom to another, in and out of the building during arrival and dismissal, and in an emergency situation.
Ability to demonstrate lessons, when appropriate.
