The Washington University Music Department is encompassed within the School of Arts & Sciences. The Department offers the following degrees: Bachelor of Arts in Music, Bachelor of Music, Master of Arts in Musicology and Theory, Ph.D. in Musicology and Theory. In addition to the music major, the Department also confers minors in music and provides lesson and performance opportunities for some 500 students per semester. Our applied music teaching staff includes members of the local jazz community and of the St. Louis Symphony. Our highly motivated, academically-oriented undergraduates pursue musical performance primarily as a means of personal enrichment and less commonly as a professional goal.
