Rowan University is a Carnegie-classified Doctoral University (High Research Activity) with approximately 19,000 students. The Department of Interdisciplinary and Inclusive Education operates within the College of Education, which offers undergraduate programs in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, and Special Education. The department also offers the following graduate programs: Master of Arts in both special education and learning disabilities, Master of Education in Teacher Leadership, and multiple Certificates of Graduate Study (COGS). A Special Education Assessment Center, supported by the Department, provides families with further structures to assist students with special needs. Additionally, the College of Education houses and supports the Early Childhood Demonstration Center, which serves preschool-age children and provides field and clinical experiences for early childhood candidates.
The College of Education is searching for a highly qualified and experienced inclusive educational professional with an elementary education background to engage in collaborative equity-based research with university and P-12 faculty and initiate research projects for external funding. The candidate will teach courses in elementary and/or inclusive education and participate in service initiatives, particularly new program implementation and initiatives catered to a growing and diverse region. The successful candidate will have a research and teaching philosophy focused on inclusion, equity, and social justice and guided by a commitment to diversity, cultural responsiveness, constructivism. Areas of expertise may include: teaching for equity, privilege, and race in teacher education. This is a full-time, tenure-track position.
• Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in teacher education, inclusive education, elementary education or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education at the time of appointment
• Meets state licensure requirements for elementary education
• A minimum of 3 years of successful teaching in diverse elementary and/or inclusive settings
• Demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, and service in areas related to social justice and equity
• Strong understanding of various education systems such as public and private education centers, as well as public preschool and K-6 education programs
• Demonstrated ability and effectiveness in communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, including commitment to inclusion, social justice and equity in education, and culturally responsive and differentiated instruction, as well as collaboration, collegiality, and respect for all people
• Demonstrated commitment to working with multiple stakeholders, P-12 schools, and underrepresented groups of children.
• A teaching/learning philosophy consistent with the mission of the College of Education
• Commitment to working as a Professor-in-Residence in one of the College’s Professional Development Schools
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
• Advocacy related to access, success, and equity issues in education
• Familiarity with program recognition and the accreditation standards of the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)
• Experience with socio-constructivist and student-centered practices in teaching, such as Anti-Bias Curriculum, Project Based Learning, and/or Bank Street Model
• Experience with multiple forms of assessment and the evaluation of practitioners, particularly the Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching and edTPA.
