Reporting to the Assistant Director/Supervisor of the Early Learning Research Academy, the Early Childhood/Pre-School Teacher assumes responsibility for the instruction of assigned students enrolled in the Pre-school Program. Reporting to the Assistant Director/Supervisor of the Early Learning Research Academy, the Early Childhood/Pre-School Teacher assumes responsibility for the instruction of assigned students enrolled in the Pre-school Program. The program will now be delivered by having 3 days in English and 2 days in Spanish ( with the assistance of the teacher assistants). These teachers will team up to teach exclusively the regular scope and sequence of the pre-school curriculum in both English and Spanish. Their instruction must be heavily scaffolded for non-Spanish speakers who are learning the language. Explicit instruction of both languages (spoken and written) must be integrated into the curriculum.
There are multiple positions available.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university. Valid NJ teaching certificate required, with P-3 endorsement.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
*Mastery of immersion instruction, with strong talent in “sheltered” delivery and scaffolding of subject-area content.
*Knowledge of dual language instruction. Knowledge of early childhood education programs and techniques.
*Knowledge of child development theory and practice.
*Knowledge of applicable safety procedures.
*Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents in a diverse community. Ability to evaluate, design, and implement curriculum, testing, and/or teaching methodologies.
*Ability to provide activities for children that encourage health growth.
*Ability to exercise control and maintain classroom discipline.
*Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children.
*Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
Master’s degree preferred.
Training in balanced literacy and early childhood development preferred.
Salary: Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and within departmental budgets.
