Job Summary:Â Â
The candidate will be capable of teaching three high school (grades 9-12) courses. The primary language of instruction is Mandarin Chinese. The teacher will work collaboratively with colleagues across faculties and departments, as well as parents, administrators, and other members of the school staff.
Curriculum design and instruction in the World Language Department at Lab is guided by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) standards and best practices. To that end, candidates should have experience and/or knowledge regarding the use of the target language for learning, the design of communicative activities, the teaching of grammar as concept and its use in context, the use of authentic cultural resources, the provision of appropriate feedback for students, and the use of backwards design for curriculum design and instruction.
The teacher will work collaboratively with colleagues across faculties and departments, as well as parents, administrators, and other members of school staff.
The candidate will exhibit knowledge and competence in a broad range of pedagogical techniques and best practices in world language instruction, including the use of technology in the world language classroom.
Part-time (75%) teachers are expected to work a 30-hour week and the required number of days as stipulated in the Faculty Association contract. All teachers are expected to perform in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
This is a half-year(2nd semester) (75%) position filling in for a teacher on special assignments. The anticipated start date for this position is January 13, 2020.Â Â

Education, Experience, or Certifications:
Education: Â Â
Bachelor's degree required.
Advanced degree preferred.Â
Unit Experience: Â
At least two years of experience teaching World Languages in primary or secondary education required.
Fluency in Mandarin required.
Fluency in English required.
Experience developing curriculum preferred.Â
