Requisition Number: 19B300461 Position Overview: Westminster Conservatory, the community music school of Westminster College of the Arts of Rider University, seeks a part-time Jazz teacher for its Community Music School to teach a course in jazz improvisation to beginning middle and high school students of varied instrumentation. Interested candidates must have previous teaching experience, and must demonstrate an ability to teach improvisation, and be able to accompany a class via the piano or guitar as an accompanist for the improvisation lessons. Experience with the different styles of jazz, such as blues and standards, is preferred. Candidate must be able to lead a class of varied instruments or with multiple student pianists. Curriculum/method is preferred but not required. Teaching position would include Saturday (11:00 am to 12:00 pm) at the Westminster Conservatory site in Princeton. The candidate would also have the opportunity to serve as a substitute in the Honors Music Program on Saturdays, so should be comfortable teaching Music Theory and/or History. Candidates must be able to (1) play piano and be able to accompany with chords and lead a class by example, or the same on guitar (2) have knowledge of jazz repertoire and be able to guide all instrumentalists in playing as an ensemble. Position Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in the area of instruction or commensurate experience is required.
