General DescriptionThe Peabody Preparatory of the Johns Hopkins University Adjunct Ballet Teacher Position: Adjunct Ballet Teacher/ Peabody Dance Training Program for Boys Campus Location: Peabody Preparatory Downtown Campus 21 East Mount Vernon Place, Baltimore, MD 21202 Reports to: Dance Department, Chair Classification: Adjunct (up to 9.5 hours of teaching per week) Start Date: September 2019 Position Summary: The Peabody Preparatory is pleased to announce an Adjunct Ballet teaching position in the Dance Department at the Peabody Preparatory, a division of the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, commencing immediately. The successful candidate will be experienced in teaching classical ballet to students of all ages and levels (beginner to advanced) ages 7-18. This position will be assigned all-boys classes in the Dance Department's tuition-free Estelle Dennis/Peabody Dance Training Program for Boys. The successful candidate will nurture an enthusiasm for ballet training among the young men in the program; create a welcoming and safe learning environment for students based on appropriate boundaries and the standards of dance class etiquette; work with the young men to develop self-discipline and mutual respect of their classmates; provide individual feedback and encouragement to improve ballet technique; and assist the Department Chair with assessing progress and placing the young men in classes to enable their growth. Duties: - Teaching 3 all-boys classes at Peabody Preparatory Downtown campus on Tuesdays from 4:45 pm - 8:30 pm. Classes will meet for 14 weeks during the Preparatory fall semester and 14 weeks during the spring semester.
- The teacher will also set and/or create choreography for the Dance Department's year-end performances. Although most performance preparation takes place during regular class times, performance responsibilities include an additional 2 weeks of rehearsals at the end of the spring semester.
