This position is on-site at the Catamount School which is located on the campus of Smoky Mountain High School.
The successful candidate will teach language arts to sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students and serve as instructor for language arts content methods courses and possibly other curriculum and middle grades education courses in the School of Teaching and Learning at WCU. S/he will also supervise interns in middle grades education. Expertise and experience in language arts teaching is expected. The successful candidate should possess a Master's degree in education from an accredited institution, North Carolina licensure in middle grades language arts, and have a minimum of three years of public school instructional experience.
Preference will be given to candidates with a graduate degree in elementary or middle grades education, reading or literacy, and/or National Board Certification. The candidate will be expected to teach and supervise interns, share program responsibilities, and provide service to the college. Consistent participation in all aspects of The Catamount School is expected. Applicants should provide evidence of experiences or the potential to: work collaboratively and across disciplines in a co-teaching model, contribute to the university's multicultural and diversity goals, and successfully collaborate with in-service teachers in a public school setting. Interest and experience in teaching in technology-rich and flexible environments is a plus.
