New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development invites applications for a non-tenure track Clinical Assistant Professor to serve as co-Director of the NYU Teacher Residency/Director of the Field Office at NYU-Steinhardt, to begin as soon as possible. This is a 12-month position that can be renewed, with the potential for multi-year contracts. The appointed faculty member will be part of the Department of Teaching and Learning. POSITION DESCRIPTION: We are hiring for a Clinical Assistant Professor position to direct the Office of Field Studies, serve as the Co-Director of the NYU Teacher Residency Program, and join as a faculty member teaching courses and contribute to Steinhardt's programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Co-direct the NYU Teacher Residency program, including providing day-to-day administrative leadership overseeing all Field and School-related aspects of the program and collaborating with the Director of Teacher Education on academic decisions related to the program. Direct the Steinhardt Office of Field Studies, including overseeing staff who handle student teaching placement for campus-based programs and providing leadership and academic oversight to the Field Office and Partnership activities. Teach online modules in the Teacher Residency. Collaborate with Department faculty on assessment and evaluation of study programs. Collaborate with Department faculty to develop and implement communication processes with partner school leadership and onsite program liaisons. Oversee and support faculty residency directors to provide efficacy and professionalism feedback to NYU Resident Teacher cohorts and support them in providing professional development for school-based personnel. Serve as a thought partner, coach, and faculty guide to field mentors and residency directors who are supporting emerging teachers on the ground in schools.
QUALIFICATIONS: An earned doctorate in teacher education or a related field is required, as are a strong record of educational administration, the demonstrated ability to teach courses to candidates in a secondary teacher education program, and a thriving scholarship agenda in the applied professional fields aligned with the Teacher Residency program. Minimum of 5 years experience teaching and/or working in complex urban settings required. We seek candidates with demonstrated experience coaching and building leadership capacity in new and experienced teachers as well as supporting coaches of emerging teachers, as well as candidates who have knowledge and understanding of teacher residencies and demonstrated experience in and passion for work in urban schools. Comfort with technology-enhanced education is required.
The candidate's ability to work well within a large multi-disciplinary department spanning virtually all areas of PK-12 education will also be essential. The new faculty member will work closely and collaboratively with teacher education colleagues in the Department of Teaching and Learning and throughout the larger NYU/Steinhardt community, as well as with colleagues in the arts, applied psychology, technology in education, physical and occupational therapy, the arts therapies, and speech and communicative sciences and disorders, so the ability to work effectively with others is essential. As Director of the Office of Field Studies, the candidate will have significant engagement with schools and community partners outside of NYU, and as such, will need to be adept at developing smooth and effective working relationships with Partner Schools, Districts, and Networks. Successful candidates will possess excellent problem-solving skills, a passion for educational programs and administration, and a flexible, detail-oriented approach to handling complex matters with multiple moving parts.
