The Department of Curriculum & Instruction in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota seeks to fill a tenured/tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor position. The successful candidate will be a field-shaping thought leader whose expertise in social justice-oriented teacher education centers on critical, interdisciplinary approaches to working at the intersections of social identities such as race, gender, languages, social class, and sexuality with a view to enhancing equity in classrooms, schools, and communities.
This is a 9-month, full-time appointment with a target start date of August 2022.
This position will be responsible for:
- Research (40%): Establish and build upon their strong research agenda pertinent to Elementary Education as it relates to equity and social justice.
- Teaching and Advising (40%): Contribute to the teaching and advising of graduate students (teacher candidates, practicing teachers, M.A., M.Ed. and Ph.D. students) primarily in the Elementary Education Program area. The individual will be expected to teach four courses per academic year with possible summer teaching opportunities available.
- Service (20%): Provide leadership in the Elementary Education program area; across the Department, College, and University; and nationally. Participate in community service and/or other outreach and public engagement activities and in the activities of relevant professional organizations.
- Develop and deliver courses in ways that effectively account for a variety of diverse backgrounds, communities, identities, and abilities
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of and commitment to the broad, interdisciplinary scholarly field of Elementary Education (K-8)
- An earned doctorate in education
- Teacher of record in elementary (K-6) classrooms for at least three years
- Experience teaching equity and justice-oriented courses for elementary teacher candidates; practicing elementary teachers; and PhD students, at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Experience working in multilingual settings and with multilingual students
- Evidence of a commitment to equity and diversity efforts in educational contexts
- Experience teaching and researching elementary school students
- A strong publication record
Preferred Qualifications
- Professionally licensed (current or expired) in a content area (e.g. English/Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies) or in elementary education (K-6)
- Evidence of a commitment to teaching, research, and collaborating in community-based settings.
- Background in multiple theoretical traditions and perspectives.
- Knowledge and experience with multiple research methodologies.
