Position Summary
The Department of Food Science & Human Nutrition at Michigan State University (MSU) is recruiting a fixed an academic specialist who will be responsible for directing the supervised practice portion of our combined MS Dietetic Internship (MS-DI) Program in addition to teaching and service responsibilities. This is a 12-month fixed term position. The distribution of effort is 40% teaching, 20% outreach/service, 15% curriculum development and 25% administration for the dietetic internship program.
The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the planning, growth, development, implementation, and ongoing supervision of the Michigan State University accredited Combined MS Dietetic Internship Program related to supervised practice. In addition, teaching and service responsibilities are also required. The master’s degree portion of the MS-DI was developed in 2018 in conjunction with the already established dietetic internship and didactic programs in dietetics at MSU. Annually the program recruits about 16 MS-DI students who complete a minimum of 1000 hours of supervised practice at locations throughout the state of Michigan with their graduate degree coursework completed online. The average time to completion for all elements of the MS-DI program is 16 months.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Manage the supervised practice component of the combined MS-DI program in conjunction with the MS-DI academic coordinator. Manage program goals and objectives; and design and coordinate practice experiences (offsite, on campus, and simulation) to meet the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accreditation standards.
- Design, coordinate and evaluate the supervised practice requirement.
- Participate in dietetic intern recruitment, advisement, counseling, and successful program completion.
- Identify and recruit sites, preceptors, and other external partners and/or agencies as appropriate to achieve program goals and outcomes
- Actively engage in curriculum development and teaching relevant to the dietetic interns
- Monitor and evaluate the dietetic internship curricula for alignment with ACEND standards.
- Conduct exit interviews, graduation surveys, and site/preceptor evaluations to ensure strong student outcomes and achievement of program goals.
- Create and maintain records, annual reports, ACEND accreditation standards, program fees, verification processes, credentialing exam documentation, and other reports as needed.
- Manage budget and participate in budget planning with the department chair and steering committee.
- Lead and serve on relevant departmental, college, university, and student committees as needed.
- Maintain active membership and presence in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and state affiliate
- Perform other duties as needed.

Minimum Requirements
- An earned MS, RDN completed and credentialed prior to start date.
- Minimum of five years of professional experience post-credentialing within academic or clinical settings, and a minimum of two years of supervisory experience in the field of dietetics
- Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in teaching and practice.
Desired Qualifications
- Prior teaching and course development at the college-level preferred
- Experience with online course delivery.
- Previous work experience in clinical dietetics.
- Previous teaching experience in an ACEND accredited program.
