Position Summary:

Committed to Advancing Excellence and Equity in Education, the Graduate School of Education (GSE) at Rutgers University–New Brunswick seeks an outstanding scholar at the rank of Assistant Professor to join the Language Education program within the Department of Learning and Teaching.
Major Responsibilities:
The scholar filling this position will conduct research that advances knowledge in language, equity, and education for emergent bilinguals and will prepare future ESL, World Language and bilingual educators. The successful candidate will contribute to the GSE's program in Language Education and the GSE's Equity, Social Justice and Urban Teacher Education program.
The scholar will contribute to the growth of teacher education and doctoral programs; participate in language education program development and innovation; and develop and teach courses in language education. The scholar filling this position may teach methods courses for emergent bilinguals (for ESL, WL, and/or bilingual students); language across content areas; sociolinguistics; or second language acquisition grounded in equity, community-engaged, and anti-racist frameworks. Additionally, the scholar will advise master's and doctoral students; participate actively in local, state, and national professional organizations; and contribute to the service missions of the Graduate School of Education and the university.
The scholar filling this position will:
Conduct a research and publication agenda that advances Rutgers Graduate School of Education's pursuit of Advancing Excellence and Equity in Education;
Demonstrate commitment to scholarly productivity by publishing in peer-reviewed journals and with highly respected presses;
Secure competitive external research support, and present at national and international scholarly conferences;
Contribute to the success of programs across the GSE; participate in relevant program development and innovation;
Assume an active role in the Language Education program, the Department of Learning and Teaching and in the GSE, providing graduate student advisement, teaching and service; and
Participate actively in national professional organizations; and contribute to the strategic goals of the Graduate School of Education.
Subject to the availability of funding, the position will begin September 2022.

Minimum Education and Experience:
- Applicants are required to have earned a doctoral degree from an accredited major research university with a specialization in language education broadly defined (i.e. applied linguistics, bilingual education, educational linguistics, language and society, or world language);
- The position requires expertise at the intersections of language, language education, equity, social justice, and anti-racist teaching across contexts of learning;
- Demonstrated commitment to addressing equity, anti-racism, and social justice in preK-12 education and/or other educational sites;
- Scholarly accomplishments aligned with securing competitive external research funding;
- Demonstrated success or potential for success in securing competitive external research funding;
- Identification as bi/multilingual; and
- Evidence of preK-12 teaching experience and effective teaching at the university level.
