QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates should have:
- Bachelor's degree; Master’s degree is preferable
- Knowledge of child development, progressive education, and constructivist teaching
- At least three years teaching experience
- Experience with and delight in working with Middle School aged students
- Ability to work collaboratively and an interest in an interdisciplinary approach to education
- Ability to execute and adapt an American History curriculum
- Strong understanding of literacy development
- Excellent writing skills / experience teaching essay writing, and comfort with providing feedback on student work in a timely manner
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Teaching a Humanities curriculum (social studies and literature/language arts) to 12/13 year-olds that is responsive to children’s developmental capacities and needs
- Along with the math/science teacher, serving as a homeroom teacher for ons class of 7th graders, overseeing their social emotional, cognitive, and physical development
- Communicating and collaborating regularly with families and others who support learning and growth
- Facilitating a community curriculum – a program on human growth and development, digital citizenship, relationships, peer pressure, wellness, and effective communication
- Organizing and maintaining a positive and supportive classroom that reflects curricular work and communal values
- Differentiating instruction to support group and individual learning
- Providing extra help to students as necessary
- Sharing progress and concerns with families through conferences and a written reports, twice a year
- Attending regular division, department, and supervisory meetings
- Committed to addressing issues of social justice, diversity, equity, and anti-bias education in our curriculum and in our community; teachers must be willing learners and participants in supporting this work
