The teacher will implement developmentally appropriate, child-centered curriculum which encourages learning through exploration and discovery and promotes the development of a positive self-image. The teacher will utilize teaching strategies that support each child’s individualized learning goals including goals that are outlined on Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs). The teacher will model positive social interactions and language. The teacher will implement positive class management techniques and strategies. All practices the assistant teacher uses must be consistent with guidelines put forth by Bank Street College and the New York City Department of Health /Bureau of Day Care.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the health, safety and well-being of children in the program by providing close supervision of children during all activities.
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum that supports and stimulates each child’s individual development.
- Carry out stimulating lesson plans promoting exploration, creativity, and discovery.
- Partner with parents to promote understanding of growth and development of their child.
- Effectively communicate with parents, verbally, and in writing, throughout the year.
- Write classroom blogs/newsletters, parent/teacher conference reports and daily notes.
- Document and maintain student records including, but not limited to, reports about areas of development and growth, and areas of concerns, if applicable, and all reports required by the Committee on Preschool Special Education.
- Attend all required trainings, supervisory meetings and other professional development workshops.
- Engage in reflective supervision.
- Lead meetings and other professional learning opportunities that support the overall all building and development of a collaborative teaching team.
- Prepare for and lead parent/teacher conferences and parent meetings.
- Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment.
- Work cooperatively with other teachers, therapists and administrators.
- Ensure that all Bank Street College, New York City Department of Health/Bureau of Day Care and New York City Department of Education guidelines followed.
- Other duties as assigned by Director.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education/Special Education
- New York State teaching certification.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills
