Position Description:
Part-Time Residency Director (15 hours/week) for roughly 15 resident teachers who are enrolled in NYU's Teacher Residency Program located in schools in Danbury CT(two schools) and New York City (three to four schools). In person observation/coaching required twice monthly in schools in Danbury CT and in Manhattan and the Bronx.
Job Expectations:
Coaching, mentoring, community building, and supporting NYU Teacher Residency:
Observing in person and coaching +/- eight (8) Resident Interns, mentoring and supporting School Based-Teaching Mentors, School Based-Residency Site Lead and interacting with School Leaders (an average of 1 hour per week in schools per resident intern)
Interacting, advocating, and messaging with Resident Interns to problem-solve around areas of practice and support their ongoing development
Reviewing video clips of Interns teaching and providing feedback, coaching, and assessment of teaching efficacy using the Steinhardt Learning to Teach Framework (derived from Danielson Framework for Teaching and the Framework for Equitable and Effective Teaching)
Building an intervisitation schedule for interns to visit other schools and classrooms
Creating opportunities for community building for the Resident Intern cohort
Supporting and project managing "special projects" as asked by Teacher Residency leadership, consistent with expectations of Residency Director role
Leading instruction for two sections of the module, What are my Professional Responsibilities?
Communication:
Sharing Resident Intern and partner highlights and concerns with NYU Teacher Residency faculty and leadership
Flagging and supporting Interns who may need the support of a performance improvement plan and/or additional inputs to succeed
Facilitating professional learning sessions for School-Based Teaching Mentors
Partnership:
Building relationships with Danbury CT and NY Charter school leaders
Facilitating monthly meetings with District/charter partners
Co-Leading biannual data meetings with District/charter partners
Supporting with recruitment events and strategy
Meetings:
Attending and fully participating in twice-monthly NYU Teacher Residency Faculty meetings
Attending and serving as active participant in monthly Residency Director Professional Learning Community meetings
Attending monthly check-ins with Co-Directors of NYU Teacher Residency
Attending weekly/as needed check-ins with Director of Field Studies or designate for thought partnering
Engaging in shared learning intervistation experiences with other Residency Directors
Attending all, and facilitating selected monthly Teacher Residency Community Meetings
Additional Teaching Opportunities:
Leading instruction for other modules, as background, expertise, and interest may permit
An advanced degree (Masters or doctorate) in teacher education or another related field, a strong track record of supporting the development of effective teachers, and demonstrated effectiveness as a teacher. Preference will be given to candidates with 5+ years of teaching and/or working in a high opportunity school setting who can demonstrate strong professional experience in coaching and building leadership capacity in new and experienced teachers, and who are adept at developing smooth and effective communications and working relationships with Partner Schools and Districts. We particularly seek candidates who bring to their work an anti-racist lens and who have knowledge and understanding of teacher residencies, demonstrated experience and passion for work in complex schools, knowledge and skills to support inclusive education principles, and experience leading effective professional development.
