Position Opening – Associate Teacher, Middle School (7- to 10-year-olds; 2nd grade - 4th grade)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be enrolled as a graduate student at Bank Street College for the 2022-2023 school year.
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience teaching children 7-10-year-olds preferred
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Associate Teacher will:
- Support the curriculum plans of the cooperating teacher and age-level and gradually assume increased responsibilities, including opportunities to initiate and implement parts of the curriculum.
- Help build a collaborative, cooperative, and reflective approach to working as a classroom teaching team and as an age-level teaching team.
- Participate in the use of observing and recording methods, assessment practices, and management supports as related to individual children, small groups, and the whole class.
- Gain skills and understanding of progressive education approaches supporting the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth and development of particular age groups.
- Develop skills and confidence in working with families, including aspects of home-school communication through emails, conferences, and report writing.
- Attend and participate in weekly age-level planning meetings, support meetings, and faculty meetings after school.
- Help design, organize and maintain a materials-based classroom that reflects the curriculum and current work of the children. This includes daily classroom morning set-up and evening clean-up.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
$38,000 plus Associate Teachers are eligible to take up to four free Graduate School courses for the school year (September 1st- August 31) and are also eligible for medical and dental coverage.
