Position Summary

The Department of Food Science & Human Nutrition at Michigan State University (MSU) is recruiting an academic specialist who will be responsible for the academic coordination of its online Master’s Dietetic Internship (MS-DI) Program. This is a 12-month position. The distribution of effort is 50% teaching, 45% academic program coordination, and 5% service for this fixed-term position.

The successful candidate will be expected to coordinate the academic portion of the combined MS-DI program in addition to teaching and service responsibilities. The master’s degree portion of the MS-DI was developed in 2018 in conjunction with already established dietetic internship and didactic programs in dietetics at MSU. Annually the program recruits MS-DI students who complete a minimum of 1000 hours of supervised practice at locations throughout the state of Michigan and the remaining coursework online. The duration of the entire program is 16 months.

Responsibilities

This individual will be responsible for:

• General academic administration of the program in conjunction with the dietetic internship director, including recruitment, selection, and advising/mentoring of students.  
• Coordination of the master’s degree capstone experience (non-thesis option) in collaboration with graduate faculty members in the department.
• Supporting the MS-DI director with completing accreditation reports.
• Developing and teaching of online courses for the program.
• Possible undergraduate course delivery either in-person or online.

Masters -Nutrition or a related field

Desired Degree

Doctorate -Nutrition or a related field

Minimum Requirements

• Master’s degree in nutrition or a related field
• Registered dietitian credential (RD or RDN)
• Prior teaching and/or course development at the college-level.
• Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in teaching and practice.

Desired Qualifications

• PhD preferred
• At least 3 year’s work experience in nutrition and dietetics.
• A research publication record commensurate with experience.
• Experience with online course delivery.
• Previous work experience in clinical dietetics and teaching in an ACEND accredited program.
