Assistant Professor in Teacher Education/Elementary Education
The School of Education at Saint Louis University invites applications for a Non Tenure-Track Assistant Professor positions in our Teacher Education Program. Specifically, we are seeking one new colleague with expertise in Elementary Education. Successful candidates will have a deep interest in educating future teachers to work in urban schools in the St. Louis region. The new faculty member will have an appointment in the School of Education, starting in mid-August 2023. This is a full-time, 9-month appointments, with the possibility of teaching summer courses for additional compensation.
Position Summary: Â Faculty in the School of Education at Saint Louis University are seeking a colleague to join a core of faculty members focused on the BA in Education program. Our faculty work with pre-service teachers in various subject areas who will ultimately educate students from early childhood to the secondary level. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work with colleagues to implement a redesigned curriculum, focused on graduating equity-minded teachers. This new curriculum began implementation in Fall 2022. The successful candidate will teach courses for students seeking certification in education (grades K-12) or elementary education (grades 1-6).
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will have an opportunity to:
- Teach multiple classes to undergraduate students in teacher education. These might include courses that are part of our redesigned curriculum, and/or older courses taught to upper-level students.
- Supervise practicum experiences.
- Partner with schools and communities.
- Engage in professional, university, and departmental service.
- Work with colleagues to support the undergraduate Education program.
- Actively recruit and supervise undergraduate students and support strategic initiatives in the School of Education and the St. Louis community.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Earned doctorate in Teacher Education, Elementary Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field (by date of appointment).
- Three years of full-time elementary teaching experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development of teacher candidates.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- University teaching experience.
- Record of teaching courses related Elementary Education (1-6).
- Knowledge of recent trends in education as they pertain to culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogies, education for social justice, and educational inequity.
- Experience working with learners with diverse needs, experiences, and backgrounds.
- Knowledge and capability with technologies in education, including online teaching experience.
- Experience supervising student teaching.
- Commitment to and experience partnering with schools, families, communities, and/or community agencies.
- Strong collaboration skills.
Preference will be given to candidates with a proven commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
