Position Summary
The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Michigan State University invites applications for a full‐time, 12-month, fixed-term Academic Specialist-Teacher with a 90% teaching assignment and 10% service, with annual reappointment available contingent on satisfactory evaluated performance. The start date of the position is flexible; however, the department prefers an individual who can begin no later than 6/1/2023.
The individual will teach courses in the Food Science curriculum including Food Product Development (FSC 470), Food and Nutrition Laboratory (FSC 455), and Food Chemistry Laboratory (FSC 402). In addition, the specialist will teach other courses and assist with other duties as needed in the department. Responsibilities in addition to teaching will include maintenance and oversight of laboratory equipment, supplies and materials for laboratory facilities associated with assigned courses.

Minimum Requirements
Strong background in food product development, food chemistry, and food analysis. Experience in teaching at the college level. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to work in a team as well as independently. Laboratory expertise to effectively operate and maintain a variety of laboratory instruments.
Desired Qualifications
A background in food safety and ability to teach food safety courses such as HACCP, PCQI, etc. Preference for PhD in food science, nutritional sciences, chemistry, or a related field.
