After School Clay Teacher

Role: After School Clay Teacher (Part-time role)
Schedule: Weekly on Thursdays from 3:15–5:30 PM (teaching time 3:30 - 4:15 and 4:30 - 5:15, plus set-up/clean-up), from February 2–June 8, 2023.
Pay Rate: $175 for 2.5 hours
Job Summary: The After School Clay Teacher will lead an after school course that supports a growing knowledge of how to handle, manipulate, and sculpt with functional clay. The Clay Teacher should be able to design and implement a curriculum that introduces and builds upon techniques such as coils, pinch pots, and slabs. The Clay Teacher will guide students through various projects from conception to completion.
This position runs February–June along the SFC school calendar.
Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with the After School Director, design and implement an age-appropriate curriculum for students ages 5-7 and 7-9.
- Prepare materials, set up/clean up art room.
- Build relationships with students so they treat each other well and stay on task.
- Use classroom management skills to run and support an energetic classroom of children, while maintaining and reinforcing health and safety rules.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma required and Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience with clay, including firing and glazing is required.
- Experience managing a classroom and teaching children is preferred.
- Experience with progressive education is preferred.
- Prior experience working as part of the Bank Street community is preferred.
- Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team, as well as develop skills in working with individual children, small groups, and the whole class.
