Position Summary
The Institute for Food Laws and Regulations (IFLR) in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Michigan State University invites applications for a full‐time, 12-month fixed-term Academic Specialist with 0% research, 85% teaching and 15% administration. The position's start date is anticipated to be July 1, 2023.
This position, reporting to the IFLR Director, will assist with IFLR management, oversee IFLR instructors, and teach online food law courses. This full-time position will be responsible for the following:
- Supervise part-time instructors and management of guest lecturers.
- Assist with course evaluations. Ensure high-quality instruction and educational materials that meet the needs of IFLR students.
- Develop, maintain, and teach four or more online courses each year. Courses will be determined based on background and IFLR needs but might include USDA FSIS law, the FSVP rule and food import law, Codex Alimentarius, the law of produce safety, and food regulatory affairs.
- Teach a minimum of 40 3-credit IFLR students per year.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with IFLR partners (Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, MSU College of Law, Online Master’s in Food Safety) to ensure coordination of resources and provision of appropriate courses.
- Promote IFLR and draw students to IFLR courses. Represent IFLR at conferences, workshops, and trade shows.
- Ongoing assessment to support continuous improvements in the program and the quality of courses delivered. Assist with budget development and planning. Assist with the strategic vision and leadership for IFLR.
