Job Description:
The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education – Child Development Center at Ohio University invites applicants for Early Childhood Assistant Teacher (Substitute) positions. These positions will be intermittent and utilized on an as needed basis.
Candidates should have experience teaching children ages birth to 5 years old. The successful applicant will bring strong qualifications, be reliable and possess a positive attitude.

Responsibilities:
Is friendly, dependable, respectful, positive, flexible, calm, and hardworking.
Is responsive and able to prioritize the needs of the classroom.
Has working knowledge of computers and able to check email daily.
Approaches feedback and direction with a learning attitude.
Follows Developmentally Appropriate Practices, Early Learning and Development Standards, and Reggio-Inspired Center philosophy.
Works collaboratively with Teachers to coordinate classroom experiences and routines.
Communicates directly and practices conflict resolution.
Maintains Classroom Environments with clean, safe and organized classroom adhering to all licensing and accreditation standards.
Flexibility and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
Maintain classroom attendance and tracking sheets.
Able to work with small groups and individual children.
Builds empathy and problem solving in children and uses a variety of effective guidance and management strategies.
Greets families and communicates with confidentiality and respect.
Takes profession seriously and seeks to improve skills and stay current.
Obtains and stays current with required trainings.
Minimum Qualifications:
An Associates degree is required or an equivalent work experience will be considered for those who have a high school diploma or GED and related work experience.
One year of related work experience with young children is also required.
Successful completion of a background check. Medical statement.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least three years of experience working in an early childhood classroom.
Knowledge of Developmentally Appropriate Practices, Ohio's Early Learning and Development Standards, and the Reggio Emilia philosophy.
