This is an academic year (9 month) position, with possible opportunities for summer teaching if desired. The Program seeks candidates whose teaching, service, or other experience has prepared them to contribute to creating inclusive learning spaces for a diverse group of students. The successful candidate will work with colleagues to develop, coordinate, and teach data science courses primarily for students in the MSDS program, joining a vibrant, diverse, and supportive group of faculty members focused on instructional excellence in data science. In addition to resources local to the MSDS program, Michigan State University provides an excellent environment for teaching innovation, including the highly-ranked Program in Mathematics Education and faculty groups in the Department of Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, and the Department of Computational Mathematics, Science, and Engineering.

• A master’s or doctoral degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field;
• A background in practical probability & statistics, machine learning models, and coding
• Knowledge of or experience with student-centered pedagogical methods;

• Demonstrated experience with or commitment to learning and growing as an instructor;

Desired Qualifications
Desirable but not required are
• Experience teaching data science, mathematics, statistics and/or related fields, either with full responsibility for courses or as a teaching assistant;
• Practical experience working with data science models in an applied setting
• Experience in course development, particularly for data science, statistics, computer science, or mathematics

• a CV which at a minimum includes data on academic degrees you have earned, work experience that is relevant to the position, your experience in data science, and your experience using R or Python (and other programming languages as relevant), and a list of any courses taught,

Describes any prior teaching experience, including any courses taught
Describes any prior work with data science models
How your prior teaching experience and/or data science work informs your view of how data science courses should be taught at the masters level
Describes how consideration of diversity and inclusion has shaped or will shape your teaching practice;
Describes how you have used, or would plan to implement, pedagogical methods that are student-centered and promote active learning; and
Describes an experience where you evaluated the efficacy of your own teaching practice or data science modeling work, including how you collaborated with colleagues in this effort.
