This is a 4 year limited term position. The Preschool Teacher is responsible for the operation of the full-day RCLC Preschool Classroom, which will serve 15 children throughout the academic year, with an additional summer session. The Preschool classroom is located at Sunnyside Presbyterian Church. This includes implementing High Scope curriculum and planning daily lessons to support children's physical, language, cognitive, and social-emotional development, and assessing the children's development as well as the learning environment. The Preschool Teacher is also responsible for ensuring that the classroom is in compliance with Indiana State Licensure, the state Child Care Voucher systems, and the Paths to Quality Rating system. The Preschool Teacher will maintain ongoing communication with parents, and plan/implement parent-child learning activities. The Preschool Teacher will coordinate schedules for and work collaboratively with student volunteers and AmeriCorps members in the Preschool classroom.
Essential Responsibilities:
Plan and implement a daily preschool program, that runs Monday-Friday, 8:30am-2:30pm, throughout the academic school year plus an additional summer session, and serves 15 children, ages 3-5 years. The preschool program will foster each child's physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development in a nurturing and language/literacy rich environment. This involves adhering to health, safety, and emergency care protocols and sanitation guidelines, creating an environment that fosters individual and group learning, and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum. The preschool will follow the High Scope Curriculum, which incorporates respect for individual differences including learning styles, cultural differences, point of views, and individual preferences. Weekly lesson plans will be posted in the classroom and made available to parents on request.
Ensure that children's development, the program, and the classroom environment are assessed regularly, using a range of standardized tools. Children's development will be assessed using the HighScope CORAdvantage online system, the Peabody Test of Receptive Language, and the OMWPK Kindergarten Checklist, with the target goals that children will demonstrate 10 months of growth during the academic year. The learning environment will be assessed yearly using the Program Quality Assessment Tool (target goal 4.0) and the Paths To Quality Checklist (target - maintaining PTQ Level 3).
Collaborate with RCLC staff to promote an atmosphere that fosters relationship-building and learning at the Robinson Community Learning Center. Attend RCLC weekly staff meetings and participate in Centerwide events. Coordinate schedules and work collaboratively in the classroom with Community-Engaged Learning volunteers and AmeriCorps members.
Maintain compliance with state agencies such as Paths to Quality, Child Care Licensing, and the Child and Adult Food Care Program through South Bend Schools. Make sure required records are kept accurately and updated regularly, and that operational guidelines are adhered to.
Recruitment and enrollment of preschool families. Assist parents with applications for CCDF and On My Way Prek (OMWPK) vouchers, and ensure parents remain in voucher compliance by swiping their voucher cards for daily attendance. Maintain ongoing communication with parents, which may include conducting home visits and parent conferences, writing a monthly parent newsletters, and planning weekly at-home family literacy activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Associates degree or up to 3 years of college or technical school Experience: 1 to 2 years Degree (Knowledge): Child Development Associate Certificate or college degree in Child Development or related field
Skills: Knowledge of early childhood education, including ages and stages of child development, learning and curriculum, classroom environment, and health and safety requirements. Ability to relate well to diverse population of children and families. Patience, flexibility, and a spirit of adventure! Strong organizational skills and an ability to multi-task Proficient with Google Suite and social media.
*Must have either a Child Development Associate (CDA) or 15 college credit hours related to needs, skills, development, or teaching methods of children age six years and under.
