Position Summary:
The Central New York (CNY) Region of the New York State Master Teacher Program (NYSMTP) based at SUNY Cortland has an immediate opening for a full-time (40 hours/week) Regional Director, with the potential for future conversion to full-time position pending additional funding. The NYSMTP is a professional network of outstanding K-12 classroom teachers and counselors which is organized and supported through the State University of New York (SUNY). Master Teachers and Counselors are selected to join the prestigious NYSMTP through a rigorous application process. Selected applicants commit to engaging in NYSMTP sponsored professional development activities over a four-year period and receive stipends for this additional work. Currently, the Central New York Region of NYSMTP has 72 Master Teachers and Counselors. More information about the NYSMTP Program can be found at: https://www.suny.edu/masterteacher/
The CNY Regional Director of the NYSMTP is responsible for developing and leading all aspects of the NYSMTP for the CNY Master Teachers. This includes recruiting and selecting participants, organizing and implementing all professional development activities, and overseeing all program-related administrative tasks including budgeting, staffing, reporting and assessment. The Regional Director works with multiple stakeholder groups including program participants, SUNY Cortland faculty, other NYSMTP Regional Directors, and the NYSMTP Executive Director to ensure the successful operation of both the regional and state-wide program.
Major Responsibilities:
CNY Regional Director of the NYS Master Teacher Program:
- Coordinate recruitment efforts of Master Teachers for the CNY Region and assist with the state-wide selection process.
- Communicate with and provide support as needed to all CNY teachers enrolled in the NYSMTP.
- Develop, coordinate, and facilitate professional learning programs for CNY Master Teachers and/or Master Counselors.
- Integrate the NYSMTP with the SUNY Cortland campus and SUNY state-wide initiatives and programs.
- Communicate regularly with the central NYSMTP office based at SUNY System Administration in Albany, including but not limited to the NYSMTP Executive Director, Assistant Directors, and Program Coordinator.
- Manage the CNY regional budget for the NYSMTP according to New York State and SUNY regulations and NYSMTP Program Implementation guidelines.
- Represent the CNY NYSMTP at state-wide events and conferences related to support and fulfillment of the major duty areas above.
- Travel throughout the CNY region as needed to implement and support professional development activities and CNY Master Teachers at school sites and occasional travel to Albany or New York City for Regional Director meetings.
- Ability to work after school hours or on weekend days as needed to support implementation of professional development activities.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience as a teacher, administrator, or other professional position within an organization that is connected to P-12 STEM education
- At least three years of professional experience in the field of education or other non-profit
- Evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated facility with technological tools, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications:

- · Experience in project and/or organizational management
- · Experience supporting teacher professional development
- · Direct experience in STEM education
- · Strong work ethic, energy level, and creativity
- · Willingness to work during after school hours and weekend days as needed
