Description:Faculty Responsibilities:Saint Mary's College of California invites applications for a full time, tenure-eligible associate professor position in elementary education / child development beginning in Fall 2024 in the Teacher Education Department in the Kalmanovitz School of Education. We seek a critical scholar-practitioner with experience teaching language, literacy, multiple subjects and master's degree education students who can collaborate at the department level and across the College. Applicants with experience in teacher
preparation and/or teacher professional development are strongly encouraged to apply, particularly if this experience has focused on early childhood education in diverse settings.

In addition to teaching core courses in the preparation of students seeking teaching credentials in MSTE and a Masters in Teaching, the successful candidate has a strong background in language and has a background in early childhood education/literacy, curriculum development and knowledge of academic certificates. The successful candidate will assist TED in aligning new literacy standards with each of our credential pathways, develop certificates and minor/majors in TED around literacy, early childhood education and leadership.
Saint Mary's faculty are expected to maintain an active scholarly agenda and demonstrate intellectual growth and significant achievement appropriate to their field. All faculty also contribute to the mission in alignment with
Transformation 2028 strategic priorities and as it relates to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice, and interdisciplinary programming.
All faculty serve the College and community in many ways, such as academic advising, student and community outreach, participation in departmental and College-wide committees, and the development and assessment of the College's Core Curriculum. Faculty are also encouraged to teach in the College's Core Curriculum, January Term, and Collegiate Seminar programs.

Qualifications:Candidates should hold a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in education or a related field, with a focus on language and literacy and childhood development. They must have a strong commitment to student-centered teaching and research, a strong background in teaching methods, and a demonstrated ability to teach, advise, and mentor candidates who will teach in diverse educational and cultural contexts. The candidate must be prepared to support teacher education students to make learning culturally relevant and connected to pressing issues for humanity. They must also have experience in masters level teaching, CTC accreditation and curricular development. Experience as program director and other leadership/administrative work highly desirable. Saint Marys College has been designated a Minority and Hispanic-Serving Institution, and many students are first-generation-to-college. Successful candidates must be able to engage and support students of color; women, nonbinary, and transgender students; students with diverse abilities; emergent multilingual students; and model inclusive and anti-racist teaching practices.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - A Doctorate in Education or a highly related field
- Experience in early childhood education, multiple subject teacher education preparation
- Experience as a program director or chair
- Experience of Masters level teaching
- Experience with CTC Accreditation
- Experience building curriculum
- Evidence of at least three years college teaching experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated expertise partnering with K-12 school sites
- Experience developing or growing a critically conscious teacher education program
- Record of interdisciplinary and creative research and scholarly production
- Experience developing certificates
