The Children's School, as a part of the Department of Psychology, is accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs, a division of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Our tuition-based program is designed to offer developmentally appropriate options for morning or afternoon preschool and full-day kindergarten for children in the community as well as CMU families.
For students interested in early education, The Children's School, founded in 1968, is a great opportunity to conduct research and work directly with children. The school is a laboratory that focuses on developmentally appropriate learning for children between the ages of three and five, rich research and practice experiences for students and constructive collaboration with researchers across CMU's campus.
We are now seeking to hire Substitute educators to join our team. In this role you are responsible for working closely with the other educators in the relevant classroom to implement assigned individual or group activities with children.
These activities include:
- Helping with greeting and dismissal of children
- Activity preparation Implementation and clean-up
- Snack/lunch preparation
- Children's diapering, toileting and dressing
- Playground preparation, supervision and clean-up
- Other duties as assigned
We are looking for someone who follows the School's safety and sanitation standards and reports signs of child's illness or unusual behavior to the administrative team. You will also participate in professional development and other all-staff activities as available. This is a part-time position and Substitute Educators work varied hours as needed, at an hourly rate of $14.00.
You must demonstrate:
- Be creative and flexible
- Strong communication skills with both adults and young children
- Willing to work as a team
- Possess strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to resolve conflicts effectively
- Report promptly to work and exhibit effort and enthusiasm
- Music and computer skills, library experience, interest in gym, cooking, woodworking, and art activities (preferred)
- Physical mobility: Must be able to monitor safety in the classroom and on the playground
- Must be able to lift and carry children as well as move light furniture and play materials (e.g. bikes, large blocks, etc)
Qualifications:
High School/GED required, Bachelor's degree preferred
Two or more years' experience teaching young children, 2-6 years of age, in a developmentally appropriate context
Requirements:
- Successful Background check
- PA Child Protection Clearances (Act 153)
- FBI Background check Background check as per PA Act 168
- PA Early Childhood Teaching Certificate or eligible for PA Private Academic School Certification for Nursery/Kindergarten
