Job Description:
Summary
The Child Development Laboratory School at Iowa State University is seeking applications for an Early Childhood Teacher Assistant to support licensed teaching staff in educating young children, including children with disabilities. This position assists with implementation of developmentally appropriate curricula and activities for children and families enrolled at a model program for early childhood care and education. A primary function of this role will be to serve as a substitute in the classroom for Early Childhood Teachers when they are absent, meaning that hours worked may will be varied, sometimes on short notice.
Example of Duties
- Collaborating with other Lab School staff
- Communicating with families
- Assisting with assessing childrenâs development
- Planning and implementing activities to meet individual child needs
- Working with Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) faculty who place practicum students in the Lab School
The successful candidate will have:
- Strong skills in timeliness, organization, and flexibility
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of appropriate expectations for young children
- The ability to work as part of a team, assess students, document progress, work with children who have identified special needs, plan and implement curriculum, be self-reflective, and have a positive attitude.
