Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary purpose of the Special Education Teacher is to support students, classroom teachers, parents and administration in developing and implementing a continuum of services to meet student needs, as well as comply with local, state and federal regulations regarding identified students at Niner University Elementary in Charlotte, North Carolina.
- Be knowledgeable of local, state and federal regulations and laws pertaining to exceptional children
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by state and federal law, school policy and procedures, and administrative regulation
- Instruct, collaborate, and communicate with a diverse group of students, colleagues, and parents
- Be knowledgeable of and effectively use, appropriate evidence-based academic and behavioral interventions
- Be knowledgeable of and effectively employ methodology for finding and adopting new interventions appropriate to students' specific strengths and needs
- Develop an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for students with disabilities using diagnostic information obtained from tests and other assessment procedures
- Administer and interpret individual educational testing using various testing materials
- Use data to ascertain progress towards academic and behavioral/emotional goals
- Implement an instructional plan which is aligned to demonstrated strengths and weaknesses of the student based upon assessment data
- Update the IEP as needed and in compliance with state and federal law, and with school policy and procedures
- Employ a variety of teaching methods to meet student needs, adapting or developing materials as needed
- Utilize functional behavioral assessment (FBA) and analysis to identify the function of inappropriate student behavior
Minimum Experience / Education:
Degree in special education with at least three years experience as a special education teacher in an elementary setting, or equivalent.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
- Master's Degree
- Evidence of skill working with at risk student populations
- Demonstrated leadership in EC compliance
- Knowledge of social-emotional learning
