| Job Summary: | The Teacher Physical Education is responsible for planning and providing physical educational services for all of the students attending KinderFrogs (ages 18 months to 6 years) and Starpoint (ages 6 years to 12 years) Laboratory Schools on the campus of TCU. The individual will work with teachers and therapists to identify student needs and to apply a program consistent with identified needs and developmental levels; manage a collaborative teaching environment conducive to student learning; communicate student progress with parents; participate in planning and implementing parent education opportunities; and welcome TCU students for observation. |
| Duties & Essential Job Functions: | 1. Provides an appropriate and innovative PE Program designed to meet individual student needs as specified on the IEP, 504 Plan, or Learning Profile and by identifying student knowledge and skills at the outset of the school year through pretesting and reviewing prior records; identify specific student outcomes to be attained in relation to student needs and curriculum objectives.
2. Determines a sequence of learning experiences by developing written plans, both long term and daily/weekly, in physical fitness, gross motor skills, perceptual motor skills, and sports and games achievement; applying an appropriate teaching strategy consistent with student needs and time allocations.
3. Informs families of curriculum by initiating regular communications with parents about student progress through parent-teacher conferences, telephone calls, and written schedules and curriculum documents; conferencing with families regarding student achievement and behavior; receiving and responding to parent requests for information and assistance.
4. Improves teaching effectiveness by using instructional time appropriately; maintaining an appropriate physical education environment, and maintaining individual, class, and program records; responding to performance evaluation recommendations; participating in required school sponsored in-service activities.
5. Performs other related duties as assigned. |
| Required Education & Experience: | • Bachelor’s degree
• 1 year of teaching experience in physical education. |
| Preferred Education & Experience: | • Experience providing specialized services to young children.
• 3 years of teaching experience in physical education. |
| Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training: | • Valid Texas teaching credential authorizing service as a Physical Education teacher.
• Other licensed professionals may be eligible to provide adaptive physical education services to students with disabilities under the scope of practice of the specific license held (from State Board for Education Certification; 19 TAC Chapter 231: Jan 2010) |

| Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: | • Knowledge of CPR, basic first aid, Heimlich maneuver, safety, and hygiene techniques.
• Knowledge of presentation techniques for adults and children.
• Knowledge of child development stages.
• Knowledge of adapted physical education program design, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation.
• Knowledge of innovative teaching techniques and specialized equipment adapted to the needs of individual students.
• Knowledge of effective classroom management techniques.
• Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment processes and how they operate in an effective school.
• Knowledge of laws and regulations governing the position.
• Ability to learn software programs used by the department.
• Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for physical education grades K-6.
• Knowledge of basic customer service techniques.
• Ability to clearly communicate in English. |
