Drake University Head Start is seeking a professional candidate to serve as a Teacher Associate in a Des Moines metro location. This position will assist the teacher and child in daily activities in the classroom. This individual will participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a developmentally appropriate practice. This position consists of light cooking, assisting the teacher, and working directly with the children. Some time spent completing required paperwork. A Preschool CDA (Child Development Associate) credential, an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or enrollment in a CDA program with ability to obtain certification within two years of hire required. High School Diploma or GED required. Head Start experience preferred. Current driver's license and ability to be insured by the University's insurance carrier required.

Function	Percent	Description
01	20%	Prepare breakfast, lunch, snack, beverages, and any required recipes by following proper and safe food preparation methods.
02	10%	Participate in snack and mealtime activities by assisting staff with serving food, eating with the children, and cleaning up after meals following CACFP guidelines.
03	5%	Encourage the children to develop a positive self concept through supportive and cheerful interaction.
04	5%	Ensure that all health and safety procedures are followed in all classroom and outdoor activities.
05	5%	Assist with instruction by following lesson plan while adapting plan to meet individual learning styles. Promote successful classroom performance for each student.
06	5%	Pick up and review orders of all shopping lists provided. May order food and related items. Prepare and maintain all necessary paperwork and records according to CACFP guidelines. Record all necessary data into program database. Drive for business purposes to make necessary purchases and pick ups.
07	5%	Maintain an organized, clean classroom.
08	5%	Develop and maintain good communication while respecting confidentiality. Establish rapport and trust with parents, staff, volunteers, and visitors in order to respond to children's environmental needs.
09	5%	Assist in creating and maintaining accurate confidential records within applicable regulations and performance standards.
10	5%	Continue professional growth by attending classes and workshops, reading new materials, and contributing resources to the program.
11	5%	Assist teachers in supervising students in non-classroom settings such as indoor large motor activities, playground supervision, outings away from classroom, and arrival and dismissal with families, etc.
12	5%	Ensure clean up after each activity and assist the teacher with the special needs of the entire center.
13	5%	Work with teacher to develop activities for children based on their interests and individual needs.
14	5%	With training and assistance of the Head Start nurse, follow written health/emergency care plans and give medication as directed. Give basic first aid to any child or staff in need.
15	5%	Assist teacher with documentation and observation of children.
16	5%	Provide assistance to the children during their daily bathroom routine by offering direction and support when needed, including the changing of diapers and pull-ups.
17	0%	Other duties as assigned. Ensure compliance with Federal Head Start Program Performance Standards, state and local regulations and rules. Ensure confidentiality of all documents maintained in the department. Promote Head Start philosophy and initiatives. Prompt and regular attendance.
